Taxing for power checks was just awful, right of the taxi line then left and now right of it, but never on it. Once the engines where started my nerves settled and i felt good about the flight to come. Unfortunately the weather had other plans and turned, it was clear we are not going flying today, so more briefing to make sure I full understand the objectives for lesson 1 and 2 and as I had nothing else that afternoon we looked at the rest of the course.Ī few bad days of weather had meant no flying, but today was go day, a quick recap of what the plan for today was, Aircraft familiarisation.Īs we walked to the a/c I felt unusually nervous, and this didn’t help as I was going through the check list, and missed out an item.Įverything felt much bigger and sturdier than the tomahawk I had been flying recently.Īfter what felt like an age I get to the engine priming and starting, a different starting procedure in that you advance the throttle, high pressure pump on for 6 seconds, throttle back, mags on, operate starter and prime as required, the same for the right engine. I had done as much reading up as I could before starting the course, so even with all the new information that i was being told I still felt comfortable with going flying today. Setting manifold pressures, Prop RPM Settings, use of gear, limiting speeds, fuel injection, turbos and a range of whole new Checks that had to be done at different stages of flight.

The instructor went over a few basic things, and some that are more complicated. I had been told there was about 7 hour’s ground school alongside the 6 hours flying, so we started with the first of many briefs, The Multi engine course is split into 6 hours flying, and 7 hours ground school with an exam paper and flight test at the end, for people who wish to go and complete the Multi Engine IR you can delay taking the test until after the actual IR Exam, this allows for more time in the aircraft so you can hone your skills, i myself will be delaying the actual skill test until im at least a few weeks into the IR. So at the start of the month i started my MEP rating on the piper seneca ii,this was my first time flying a complex a/c.Īs of today i have had 7 lessons in the a/c, and find it actually quite helpful to write up what i did, keeps it all in my head so to speak. Iv'e always found it helpful reading other peoples experiences when it comes to learning to fly so i thought that i should do one myself in case it might help others. I have been meaning to put this log on here for the last week but im only just getting around to it now.
